Boating Education Center

Site of the historic former Goble Dry Dock

The OMF Boating Education Center offers programs and activities dedicated to developing knowledgeable, safe, and competent boaters. Located in the newly designated Oswego Historic Maritime District, the OMF Boating Education Center attracts thousands of youth and adult visitors from near and far each year who take courses, enjoy visiting tall ships, and participate in summertime community events and festivals. Classes are held here, and this is the construction site of the tall ship OMF Ontario.

The education center serves as port of operation for the Oswego High School sailing club, SUNY Oswego sailing association, marine biology courses, regattas and other events. Other programs and services include: New York State Young Boaters Certificate course, youth and adult sailing, US Coast Guard licensing prep courses, and nautical archeology workshops and research projects.

The center is open May through September and is located at the harbor end of West First Street, immediately east of the U.S. Coast Guard Station in Oswego NY. Phone (315) 342-0882. (Seasonal) The Boating Education Center programs provide opportunities to:

  • Develop life-long boating skills.
  • Participate in and experience the enjoyment of community-based water activities.
  • Gain experience in the safe operation of a variety of vessel types (power boats, sailboats, and unconventional water craft).
